Why It's Worth Your Time
Linux is essential across nearly every field of cybersecurity — from system hacking, reverse engineering, and web hacking to digital forensics and cryptography. Most security tools are built for Linux environments, and real-world security research and hands-on exercises take place on Linux systems. Yet for many beginners, Linux remains a significant barrier to entry into security studies.
This Path is designed for those who are new to Linux, guiding you systematically through the core concepts required for security learning — starting from environment setup and progressing through shells, file systems, processes, and permission management. Each Unit combines clear explanations with hands-on Labs, helping you build not just theoretical knowledge, but the practical command-line skills you'll actually use every day.
Topics Covered
- Setting up Linux environments on Apple Silicon Mac and Windows (VirtualBox, WSL2)
- Understanding Linux and the role of the Shell, including sh, bash, dash, and zsh
- File and directory structures and essential commands with hands-on practice
- Linux processes: concepts, operation, and management commands
- Environment variables and how to configure them
- Controlling standard I/O with file descriptors, pipes, redirection, and grep
- Managing users and groups, setting file ownership and permissions
Recommended For
- Beginners who want to start studying cybersecurity but are unfamiliar with Linux
- Those who want to build a solid Linux foundation before diving into system hacking, web hacking, or forensics
- Learners who want to work comfortably in CLI environments
- Anyone who doesn't want Linux to become a hurdle during their security studies
